Welcome to the 2019-20 School Year at Prospect Valley!

I have enjoyed my first year at Prospect Valley Elementary School immensely and am looking forward to another fabulous year! Our focus will continue to be on helping all students grow and develop their full potential through rigorous academics, strong arts, physical education, enrichment programs, and supporting social and emotional development and foundational learning skills.

Providing an engaging and rigorous academic program for all students is our top priority. Our teachers are highly trained, dedicated and utilize proven best practices to help all students succeed. Teachers are invested in collaborating with each other, participate in professional development, and analyze student data on an ongoing basis to maximize student learning. Our full-time instructional coach and teacher librarian support teachers in using assessments to monitor progress, adjust and differentiate instruction, and also support and train both teachers and students in using the latest classroom technologies, resources, and strategies. Our teaching staff is supported by para-professionals and professional interventionists who work with students in small groups to increase academic achievement.

Our wonderful art, music and physical education programs are the highlight of many students’ days and provide balance to our intensive core instruction. Many enrichment opportunities are available to students throughout the school day and after school. Teachers work, often with para-professionals, professional interventionists and parent volunteers, to provide academic support as well as enrichment to extend student learning and keep all students challenged and engaged. A few of the many enrichment opportunities offered include theatre arts, foreign language classes, year-around intramural sports, after-school writing workshops, and various music programs. There are also opportunities to participate in the annual spelling bee, science fair, or talent show. Many students choose to join the chess club, student council, or become a peer mediator.

We want to help our students grow into happy, well-adjusted and responsible young adults and provide training in an evidence-based, social-emotional learning curriculum designed to build specific skills for social and academic success. This learning is tied to our Prospect Valley core values as we encourage, model and teach our young prospectors to go for GOLD (Give respect, Offer kindness, Listen attentively, and Do your best)! This positive behavior support system contributes to the safe and healthy environment that allows our students to thrive.
Safety is always a top priority at Prospect Valley and we regularly practice safety drills and reflect on our security practices. Many parents volunteer through our Watchdog program that helps with supervision and monitoring school grounds as part of our comprehensive safety and security plan. We appreciate and welcome parents who volunteer in a multitude of ways that enrich our school community and our students’ experiences at Prospect Valley. We are thankful for our active PTA and Accountability Committee that make significant contributions to our school and community.

It is indeed a privilege to serve as the principal at Prospect Valley. I am thankful to be able to invest in this long-standing community that started in 1898 in a white, wooden, one room school house. Please feel free to come visit and see Prospect Valley Elementary School for yourself!

Sincerely,
Beverly Haynie, Principal
