Advanced Learning Plan
Prospect Valley’s classroom teachers provide the bulk of differentiated instruction for all students including advanced learners. Prospect Valley remains committed to providing a wide range of academic enrichment opportunities for students. These may include after-school clubs, extra-curricular activities and other options which help our students increase their thinking, reasoning, and academic skill levels.
Prospect Valley's ALP Philosophy
Every student who qualifies for a plan has the chance to participate in Prospect Valley’s ALP groups. Learn more about qualifying for an ALP. Groups are formed for ALP students in second through fifth grade. The groups meet once a week for 45 minutes (30 minutes for second grade). Group sizes are kept small to encourage better accountability, learning and sharing.
Prospect Valley’s ALP group philosophy is to provide a small group environment that fosters critical and creative thinking skills, teamwork and collaboration and depth and complexity in student’s thoughtful analysis. Students are introduced to design processes and are given projects in which they utilize these processes. Projects are based on content that is outside the typical classroom content. Students work both individually and collaboratively.
Our ALP groups have a strong focus on soft skills, including listening, working in teams, being cooperative and flexible and holding each other respectfully accountable. Many of the projects are open-ended, and students must overcome challenges and deal with situations where success is not guaranteed. There is no right answer for many of the projects.
We are excited to share information about ALPs at Prospect Valley with you.

Advanced Learning Plans in Jeffco
The Advanced Learning Plan (ALP) is a legal document outlining programming for identified gifted students and guides educational planning and decision-making. An ALP is developed for every gifted student according to the student’s determined areas of giftedness, interests, and instructional and affective needs. The ALP is created after a student is formally identified as gifted. Learn about GT identification in Jeffco to begin this referral process for a student.
The student's ALP should map out what students hope to learn and accomplish in their area of strength. When students become independent learners and self-advocates they will:
- Take control of their learning and improve their education.
- Deepen understanding of their learning style and become strength-based learners.
- Acquire learning skills that apply to learning situations in life.
- Will develop a greater sense of their abilities.
Families and students in grades 6-12 may view ALPs in Student Insights.
